HPRW embarked on a crucial mission to assist and empower one hundred individuals living with Albinism in the challenging environment of Nakivale refugee settlement camp. In this marginalized community, both children and adults with Albinism confront a myriad of obstacles that severely impede their daily lives. These challenges encompass visual impairments and a heightened susceptibility to skin infections and cancer due to their inherent lack of melanin, rendering them vulnerable to exclusion from educational opportunities and limited avenues for sustainable income.

To address these pressing needs, HPRW took proactive steps by providing essential dermatological protective gear, including high sun protection factor sunscreen and wide-brimmed hats. Moreover, HPRW organized regular skin clinics tailored specifically for over one hundred individuals with Albinism, ensuring ongoing medical attention and support. Additionally, health promotion efforts were extended to facilitate eye assessments and the provision of spectacles for selected children with Albinism, fostering their ability to excel academically.

Recognizing the critical importance of safety and inclusion within educational settings, HPRW forged enduring partnerships with the teaching staff at Best Future. Through collaborative efforts, measures were implemented to ensure that children with Albinism were afforded the necessary accommodations, including permission to wear wide-brimmed hats and long-sleeved uniforms, thereby safeguarding them from the harmful effects of sun exposure while attending school. This concerted approach reflects HPRW’s unwavering commitment to empowering individuals with Albinism and fostering environments where they can thrive and realize their full potential.
